Invisible character detector, and remover.
Zero-width spaces, hidden tag messages, odd spaces and look-alike letters from another alphabet, shown right where they sit. The clean copy comes with the character count it should have had.
Hidden marks are how pasted AI text gives itself away. The NotPeople MCP drafts the next post in your voice and publishes it from a browser on your own machine, so there is no copy-paste step to drag them in.
Marks you can find. And the one you can't.
Zero-width space, joiners, word joiner, BOM, soft hyphen, direction overrides. Removed; the ones emoji and Arabic need are kept.
Cyrillic and Greek letters inside Latin words, and the other way round. Swapped back to the word's own alphabet.
Invisible copies of ASCII that can carry a whole sentence. Decoded, shown, removed.
No-break, thin, narrow, ideographic and other spaces. Turned into a plain space — or kept, if you switch it off.
What no character tool can see: statistical watermarks such as Google's SynthID-Text. They live in which words the model picked, not in any character, so the text looks and counts exactly like human writing. Only the company holding the key can test for them.
The “ChatGPT watermark”, and what this tool removes.
In spring 2025 people noticed that o3 and o4-mini answers carried a narrow no-break space (U+202F) where a plain space belonged, and the story travelled as “ChatGPT watermarks its text”. OpenAI called it a quirk of training, not a watermark, and the pattern faded within weeks. The character itself never left: it still arrives from AI answers, Word, PDFs and web pages, and every counter, form limit and plagiarism checker sees it.
This page is a ChatGPT watermark remover in that exact sense: it finds the narrow no-break spaces, zero-width spaces and other hidden characters, shows each one where it sits, and gives you the clean text. It does not rewrite a word, and it will not make AI text read as human — for that, there is nothing to remove.
- U+202FNarrow no-break space — the 2025 “ChatGPT watermark”; swapped for a plain space.
- U+00A0No-break space — Word, HTML and most chat UIs; swapped for a plain space.
- U+200BZero-width space — copy-paste from web pages and rich-text editors; removed.
- U+FEFFByte order mark — the top of files and some PDF exports; removed.
Hidden characters & the ChatGPT watermark, answered.
Do ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini put invisible watermarks in text?
Not as a deliberate mark, as far as anyone has shown. The “ChatGPT watermark” story from spring 2025 was real text: o3 and o4-mini answers carried narrow no-break spaces (U+202F) where a plain space belonged. OpenAI called it a quirk of training, not a watermark, and the pattern faded within weeks. Stray zero-width and no-break spaces still turn up in AI answers from formatting and copy-paste. Paste the text here and you will see exactly what is there. The other kind of watermark is statistical: Google's SynthID-Text, for example, nudges word choice in a pattern only the key holder can test. That leaves no character behind, so no character tool — this one included — can find or remove it.
How do I remove the ChatGPT watermark from text?
Paste the text above. Every narrow no-break space, zero-width space and other hidden character is shown in place in the Before panel; the After panel holds the same text with them removed and the character count it should have had. Press “Copy clean text”. Pasting into Notepad or TextEdit in plain-text mode strips formatting but keeps most of these characters, because they are text, not formatting.
Why does my text count more characters than I can see?
Because invisible characters still count. Twelve zero-width spaces after twelve words turn an 85-character sentence into 97, and every character counter, form limit and X's 280 will see 97. The before/after panels show both numbers.
What is a look-alike letter (homoglyph)?
A letter from another alphabet that prints the same: Cyrillic «а» and Latin «a», Greek «ο» and Latin «o». Mixed into one word they break search, spell-check and keyword matching, and they are a classic trick in phishing links and text fingerprinting. The detector flags a word only when it mixes alphabets, so real Russian, Greek or English words are left alone, and «iPhone и Wi-Fi» stays as it is.
What are Unicode tag characters?
A block of invisible characters (U+E0000–E007F) that mirror ASCII one to one. A string of them can spell a whole sentence nobody sees on screen but every program reading the text does — the trick behind hidden prompt injections. The tool decodes them and shows the message.
Will it break emoji, Arabic or Hindi text?
No. The zero-width joiner inside emoji like 👨👩👧, the emoji-style selector after ❤️, joiners inside Persian, Arabic and Indic words, and direction marks in right-to-left text are part of correct writing, so the detector keeps them.
Should I replace no-break spaces?
Usually yes when the text goes online: they stop lines wrapping and confuse some counters. French and Russian typography uses them on purpose, so the “Fix unusual spaces” switch lets you keep them.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The check runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored; refresh the page and it is gone.
Clean text is step one. Sounding like you is the MCP's.
