How to unroll an X thread

Open the thread on X and copy the link to any post in it, the first, the one that went viral, or the last. Tap Share, then Copy link.

Paste it above and press Unroll. We walk up to the first post, then read the author's follow-ups in order. Ten to thirty seconds for a long thread.

Read it as one page: numbered posts, images and video stills, quoted posts, links kept clickable, and the like and view counts per post.

Copy the thread as plain text or Markdown, copy a reader link to share, or turn the first post into a clean screenshot with the tweet generator.
The classic Thread Reader App worked by replying @threadreaderapp unroll under a thread and waiting for a link. It depended on X's API, which got expensive in 2023, and the bot has been unreliable since. Half the threads people want to read today are older than the last time it answered.
This reader does not tag anything. It reads the thread the way a logged-out browser does, from any post in it, and gives you the page in seconds. Nothing is posted under the thread, so the author never sees a bot reply.
We built it for our own work: turning a thread that landed into an X Article starts with the thread as text, and the MCP does the rest.

What is a thread reader?
A thread reader takes an X (Twitter) thread, which the platform shows as a chain of separate posts with replies between them, and unrolls it into one continuous page in order. You paste a link, it finds the first post, follows the author's own replies and shows them as a single article with the images, quotes and links kept.
What happened to the Thread Reader App and the @threadreaderapp unroll bot?
The original Thread Reader App and its 'unroll' reply bot ran on X's API. After the 2023 API pricing changes, third-party access became expensive and unreliable, and the reply bot stopped working for most people. This reader does not depend on the reply bot: you paste a link into the page instead of tagging an account under the thread.
Do I need to paste the first post of the thread?
No. Paste any post in it. The reader walks up the reply chain to the first post by the same author, then reads forward from there. If you paste a reply by someone else, you get that person's chain, so check the handle at the top of the result.
Does it work on private or protected accounts?
No. It reads public posts only, the way a logged-out visitor would. Threads from protected accounts, and posts that were deleted or hidden, will not load.
Can I save a thread as text or Markdown?
Yes. After unrolling, use Copy as text for the plain posts, or Copy Markdown for a document with a heading, the original link, quoted posts as blockquotes and image links. Both go to your clipboard and paste into Notion, Obsidian, Google Docs or an email.
Is the thread reader free?
Yes. No login, no account, no limit. It runs on the same infrastructure as the NotPeople MCP, which is the paid product; the reader is a tool we needed ourselves.
Reading threads is research. Writing them is the MCP's job.
