X character counter, with the post preview.
Counts the way X does — 280 characters, links as 23, emoji as 2, 25,000 on Premium — and shows where “Show more” cuts a long post. See it on iPhone and desktop, light or dark, and download the mockup as a PNG.
280 characters. Except when it isn't.
Every account. Spaces, line breaks and punctuation count as one each. The old 140 ended in 2017.
Long posts and Articles. The timeline still collapses them after ~280 characters behind “Show more”.
Any URL, any length — X wraps it in t.co. Two links cost 46 characters of your 280.
Most emoji and non-Latin scripts weigh double. Ten emoji leave you 260 characters.
Questions, answered.
What is the X (Twitter) character limit in 2026?
280 characters for a standard account. X Premium subscribers can write long posts up to 25,000 characters; in the timeline those are collapsed after roughly the first 280 with a “Show more” link. The old 140-character limit ended in 2017.
Does the character limit include spaces?
Yes. Spaces, line breaks and punctuation all count as one character each. The counter on this page counts them the same way.
How does X count links, emoji and non-Latin text?
Every link counts as 23 characters no matter how long it is (X shortens it with t.co). Most emoji, CJK characters and other non-Latin scripts count as 2. Latin letters, digits and common punctuation count as 1. This counter applies the same weighting, so the number you see is the number X will see.
Where does X put “Show more”?
In the timeline X shows roughly the first 280 weighted characters of a long post and collapses the rest behind “Show more”. Posts within 280 characters are shown in full. The preview cuts on the same boundary so you can put the hook before it.
Is the preview exact?
Fonts, widths and spacing follow x.com and the iPhone app at their default sizes, so line breaks and the cutoff land where they land on X. Counters and the timestamp are placeholders.
Can I download the post as an image?
Yes — the PNG button saves the phone or desktop preview at 2× resolution, light or dark. Use it for mockups, decks and previews of drafts. It is your own text on your own account; it is not a tool for faking other people’s posts.
Do you store my post?
No. Text and images stay in your browser; nothing is uploaded. Refresh the page and it's gone.
Can I preview a thread or a quote?
This tool previews one post. For a thread, preview each post separately — X truncates each one on its own.
Previewing is the easy part. Posting on time is the MCP's.
The NotPeople MCP drafts in your voice, plans the week and posts from a browser on your own machine.
