Sitewide shadowban
Reddit's automated systems hide the whole account. Your posts and comments look live to you; to everyone else, and to a logged-out browser, the profile does not exist. No message, no timer.
Subreddit-level filtering
One sub's AutoModerator or Crowd Control removes what you post there, usually a karma or account-age gate. The profile is fine; the comments are missing only in that sub. Most "shadowbans" people report are this.
Suspension
The visible one. Reddit emails you, you often cannot log in, and there is a form to appeal. If you got a message, it is not a shadowban.

What is a Reddit shadowban?
A Reddit shadowban is an account-level suppression: everything the account posts is hidden from other users while the account stays convinced it works. Your comments post, your votes register, your profile shows the history, and nobody else sees any of it. Reddit applies it automatically when an account looks like spam or vote manipulation, and it never notifies you.
How does the Reddit shadowban checker work?
It looks at the account exactly as a logged-out visitor would, because that is the only view a shadowban changes. It loads reddit.com/user/<name>: a hidden profile means shadowbanned (or no such user). Then it takes the most recent comments listed on the profile and opens each one's thread to see whether the comment is actually there, which catches subreddit-level filtering. It also counts recent posts that read "[removed]" and checks the account's age and karma against the gates most subs use.
How do I check for a Reddit shadowban by hand?
Open a private window with no Reddit session and go to reddit.com/user/yourname. A clean account shows its posts and comments. A shadowbanned account shows a page saying the user does not exist, even though the same URL loads fine in your logged-in tab. Then open one of your recent comments from that window; if it is missing from the thread while it is plainly there logged in, the account is suppressed. Posting in r/ShadowBan gets you the same answer from a bot.
Can the checker tell a shadowban from a username that doesn't exist?
No, and neither can Reddit's own logged-out view; that is the point of a shadowban. If the checker says the profile is not visible and you can log into that account with that exact spelling, it is shadowbanned. If you cannot, check the spelling.
Why are my Reddit comments not showing up but my profile is visible?
That is subreddit-level filtering, not a sitewide shadowban. A sub's AutoModerator or Crowd Control setting removes contributions from accounts under its karma or age minimum, or ones that match its rules. The fix is per sub: read its rules, earn karma elsewhere first, keep links out, and come back when the account clears the gate.
How long does a Reddit shadowban last?
Reddit publishes no duration. A sitewide shadowban persists until you appeal it successfully or the triggering behavior has stopped long enough for the systems to ease off, which can take weeks with no guarantee. Sub-level filtering tied to a young account usually lifts as the account ages and behaves.
How do I get un-shadowbanned on Reddit?
Three routes. Appeal to Reddit's admins through reddit.com/appeals if the account is genuine and got caught by a filter. Age it out: stop the behavior that tripped it, post slowly and genuinely for weeks. Or, if it was bought karma or a device and IP switch, build the next account right instead of rescuing this one: one device, one IP, comment before you post, under the daily ceiling.
Is the Reddit shadowban checker free?
